Despite colder weather and snow this week, installation of new valves and additional cleanouts to the leachate extraction system continued at the Bristol Quarry Landfill. This work will allow for periodic removal of sediment from conveyance lines to. Crews also drained and repositioned a landfill gas pipe in the Sidewall Odor Management System (SOMS) to improve efficiency.
The City this week received a No Deficiency Letter from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for all of its solid waste facilities – the Bristol Sanitary Landfill, Bristol Tire Shredder, Bristol Transfer Station, and Bristol City Yard Waste Composting Facility – from an inspection conducted by the agency on October 14. The facilities were evaluated for compliance with the Virginia Waste Management Act and no deficiencies were found. Click here to view the letter from DEQ.
