Tuning of the gas wells on the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System (SOMS) continued this week to ensure maximum efficiency of the gas extraction system. On Tuesday, with the help of the Bristol Fire Department’s rappelling crew, an 8-inch gas extraction pipe was installed in the southeastern area of the quarry landfill allowing for enhanced movement of the gas going to the landfill flare. A temporary leachate treatment system has also been installed to filter the leachate coming from the quarry landfill pump station. The system includes a vapor-phase, granular-activated carbon system that removes any contaminants from the air exhaust through absorption.
Bristol, VA will be hosting another Open House to provide updates on the progress at the quarry landfill to the public. The Open House will take place in Bristol Council Chambers on Wednesday, July 12 from 6-7:30 p.m.
