This week, crews replaced two pumps to help with liquid extraction at the Bristol Quarry Landfill. Due to significant rainfall, the stormwater pump was in operation to remove excess water. Additionally, the flare experienced increased flow, signaling an uptick in the extraction of landfill gases.
The Director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Mike Rolband and members of his staff including Southwest Regional Director Jeff Hurst, Land Protection Program Manager Stacy Bowers and Air Compliance & Enforcement Manager Tracy Blalock visited the Quarry Landfill on Wednesday, April 2. The purpose of the visit was to observe and review the progress of the ongoing remediation activities. City Manager Randy Eads, Assistant City Manager Tamrya Spradlin, Director of Solid Waste Laura Socia, and Jon Hayes were on hand to facilitate the visit and answer questions.
