Landfill Update for May 17, 2024

Posted on May 17, 2024 at 10:16 AM by Rick Belcher

A new temporary flare with additional flow capacity is now operational at the Bristol Quarry Landfill. (See photo). The new flare, which is utilized in controlling the combustion of excess gases - such as methane and carbon dioxide - generated by solid waste biodegradation, is located near the older, adjacent 498 Landfill. The flare compliments the new Sidewall Odor Mitigation System in the City’s ongoing efforts to minimize odors emanating from the property. The existing flare at the Quarry Landfill remains available as a back-up should it be needed as the efficiency of the new temporary flare is monitored and tested. If the new flare is found to be effective, a larger, higher-capacity flare will be installed permanently.2500 scfm flare_from east
